All therapy programs at SensoryWellness begin with a full evaluation. Evaluations take place in our sensory gym, at which time goals specific to each client are identified, and a timeline for meeting these goals is established. The evaluation process consists of obtaining relevant history from each client and identifying the areas of function that an individual would like to address. The therapist will identify the presence of sensory processing dysfunction, assess for retention of primary reflexes, and will clearly explain to each client the relationship between one’s difficulties in these areas to the apparent functional difficulties.
Treatment sessions, generally scheduled for 45 minutes, take place in our comfortable and private state-of-the-art sensory gym. Treatment is individualized to the particular issues, interests, and goals of each client, and is based in sensory processing and reflex integration techniques. The equipment utilized includes a variety of swings, balls, sports grade trampoline, professional grade massager, and auditory (music/sound-based) programs, among other tools. Massage techniques and therapeutic exercises are used in conjunction with these tools, and home program exercises will be taught and reviewed during therapy sessions.
To fully assess an individual’s sensory needs, functional issues, and the presence of retained primary reflexes, an in-person evaluation is optimal. For those who are unable to participate in an in-person evaluation, video/telephone consultations are available. We will obtain a full history from each client, gain an understanding of the individual’s sensory issues and functional difficulties, and specific goals to each client will be established. This option is best suited for those who are unable to travel to our treatment location, particularly those out-of-state to our facility.
Consultation / On-Site Treatment Mix
For the greatest effectiveness of treatment and quicker attainment of goals, weekly treatment sessions are optimal. For those who are able to participate in an in-person evaluation but could not participate in in-person treatment sessions on a regular basis, or for individuals who participated in a distance consultation, monthly video/telephone consultation appointments are available to augment and update home programs, as well as provide support and strategies for success within one’s daily life. When choosing this model of treatment, it is recommended that one participate in an in-person evaluation to best create a tailored and effective treatment plan. It should be understood that changes in one’s functional life will occur at a notably slower pace without direct treatment intervention.
